filter4

filter4 is a former slow filter plant on the Bruderholz, which was built in 1903-1905 by the architects Vischer & Fueter. A large proportion of Basel's households were supplied with drinking water from here. The plant is 1600 m² in size and consists of two chambers of 800 m² each. The plant was closed in 2006 because the city of Basel was using less water.

In 2006, we "discovered" the plant and began to formulate a concept for its cultural reutilisation. The result is called "filter4culture affairs" and is a seasonal exhibition venue for modern/contemporary art focussing on sculpture, installation, projection and performance. As the name suggests, it is also important to us that "affairs" are created at filter4 and that different thematic projects take place, complement each other and give rise to something new.

The exhibition space and restaurant is open seasonally from May to the end of October and can also be hired for private events.
