Forsthaus Rote Schleuse

The Rote Schleuse forest lodge has a long history. In its present form, the lodge was built around 1820 on the foundations of the Vasmer lock to provide accommodation for the local forest ranger.

At that time, wood was a particularly important resource, as it was needed to fuel the fires beneath the salt pans, which brought wealth to the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg.

From 1840 onwards, catering services were offered for the first time in the form of a coffee house.
