St John's Church is Magdeburg's oldest parish church and a gem with a fascinating history - architecturally, politically and culturally. It has been destroyed and rebuilt five times. Martin Luther preached his theses here in June 1524, after which the city joined Protestantism as a whole. Church services are still held in St John's Church on Reformation Day. Otto von Guericke, one of the most important experimental physicists, worked in the tower of St John's Church.
Today, the church is mainly used for events such as conferences, concerts and celebrations and attracts visitors with its breathtaking panoramic view over the city - and with an artistic and fiery view from the newly designed church windows.
