To ensure that the history of Grewen Mühle can continue to be written in the future, we want to leave behind an intact ecological, social and economic structure for future generations.
Our philosophy is therefore based on sustainable development. For us, sustainability is more than just "green". We are convinced that strong economic and sustainable value creation will protect the environment in the long term and secure the existence of future generations and jobs.
What does this look like in everyday life?
In 2005 , a photovoltaic system with an electrical output of 12 KW was installed on the roof of the old stable building. After the building was demolished, it was then reinstalled on the roof of the new festival barn.
In 2009, we changed the heat supply for the entire farm. In all four buildings, we switched from oil heating to a central wood chip heating system with an output of 110 KW. To this end, appropriate heating pipes were laid in each building and a wood chip store was built. As part of the new construction of the festival barn, this was doubled in size to create more space for drying and storing the wood chips.
After we had made the hot water supply completely CO2 neutral thanks to the wood chips, the turbine on the horizontal frame saw was put back into operation in 2012 and a generator with an output of 7.5 KW was installed. The turbine now utilises the power of the water from our reservoir to generate electricity. We primarily consume this ourselves and feed the surplus into the public grid.
Thanks to the conversion of the stable building in 2014/2015, the fast-response underfloor heating in the festival barn can now be heated by connecting it to the wood chip heating system. It's hard to believe: although the barn's foundation walls are over 100 years old, it is the most energy-efficient part of our farm.
