The MAAG Light Hall is the first permanent museum for immersive art in Switzerland - in Zurich.
Information technology has developed to the point where one can literally immerse oneself in the work and world of painters with the help of video projections and other optical and acoustic means. 360-degree projections make this possible. Pixels replace brushstrokes, and the focus on magnified details, as well as appropriately used animations and sound effects, reveal new dimensions in an artist's work. Of course, a digital show can't really replace an exhibition of originals. But it does provide a broad audience with a low-threshold, sensual, and emotional approach to art, perhaps awakening a desire for more. But even connoisseurs can be entertained by immersing themselves in the virtual world, provided they don't act too purist.
