The Maßstabwerk offers a wide range of uses: whether as a co-working space, an exclusive wedding venue, a location for photo shoots and film shoots, for events of all kinds – including corporate functions – or as an inspiring meeting room.
The Maßstabwerk forms part of a 13,000 square metre industrial complex in the centre of Schweina, a district of Bad Liebenstein, which is now managed by the LandCampus Foundation and is set to be developed into a vibrant neighbourhood in a rural setting over the coming years.
It was built in 1927, with the extension added in 1933, in the Bauhaus style, and was primarily constructed for the production of measuring rods – that is, folding rulers – for worldwide export. The architect of the measuring-stick factory was none other than Karl Behlert, the court architect of Meiningen, who was one of the busiest architects of his time and who also designed, for example, the Meiningen Court Theatre, the building of the Meiningen Masonic Lodge ‘Charlotte zu den drei Nelken’ and the former ‘Duchess Charlotte’ Eye Hospital in Bad Liebenstein. The architecture of the measuring rod factory was influenced by the Bauhaus style and is a listed building.
