A palace steeped in history
For more than 300 years, the Palais Schönborn-Batthyány has been a special place in the heart of Vienna. At the end of the 17th century, this magnificent city palace on the Freyung was built in the classical Baroque style. Construction began in 1692 and was carried out according to the plans of the renowned Baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Under the patronage of the distinguished Prince-Bishop Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, the interiors were magnificently furnished and enhanced with elegant Rococo elements.
To this day, the impressive grand staircase, historic rooms and ornate details bear witness to the building’s glorious past. Despite its eventful history, the palace has retained its unique character and today combines a historic ambience with contemporary art.
A place where Viennese history meets modern encounters.
